What would be my first steps in pursuing a career as a flight attendant?
I am a flight attendant. The best way to apply these days is to frequently check the various airlines' websites (go to their career section) to see whether or not they are currently hiring flight attendants. If not, I would not bother sending a resume. If so, they will usually have a list of cities throughout the nation where they will be holding 'group' interviews in the upcoming months. If you are selected from a group, you may be invited to training then, or may have to undergo one more interview, depending on the airline. You will want to look extremely well-tailored for the interview, and present yourself in a friendly yet business-like manner. Good luck to you

There's only one way to start being a writer. That is, start to write. Sit down in front of your notebook / laptop when you are entirely to yourself and start writing /typing. Shut yourself off from the entire world. Let the thoughts and creativity flow within you. Of course, you wo not become a Jeffery Archer or Wilbur Smith in a single day. But it's the first step. You wont know unless you try. Take criticism in your stride. Compare it with a baby walking. The first steps might be ungainly, but soon you will develop confidence and then, no one will be able to stop you

Sorry but I suggest you read the news, we are in the grips of a recession as bad if not worse than America. Our dole queues are growing longer every week. My fella got laid off 3 weeks ago, his dole money wo not come through until after Christmas. I am self employed in the tourism sector and I have no work for the foreseeable future. There are no jobs in Ireland for Irish people let alone anyone else right now so I suggest you put your plans on hold for a couple of years.

Is performing a patent search the first step in the invention process?
Good question. A "prior art" search should be one of your first steps in the _patent_ process. Inventing and patenting are two different things. It sounds like you might already have an invention, and now are wondering whether to patent it. The test for whether an invention is patentable varies somewhat from country to country, but is almost always based upon what is in the "prior art". In the US, the prior art mostly includes (a) any patent filed prior to your invention, (b) any publication (e.g, magazine article, web page), published more than one year prior to when you file your patent application, (c) any public use, sale or offer to sale of the invention by you or anyone else in the US more than one year before you filed your patent application. There are some other categories -- the patent laws are filled with gotchas. From these three categories, you can see that even if someone else has not gotten a patent on your invention (or if they did and it expired), you still might not get a patent either. The patent law also has gotchas on deadlines. The US and foreign laws favor early filings. Now, back to searching. Before you spend the money to hire someone else, try doing some searching on your own. Use a search engine such as Yahoo to see if there are any products or services like your invention, or articles which are on point. You should also use the patent database of the US Patent & Trademark Office www.uspto.gov to search issued patents and published applications. Most people search and finding nothing, but at least it's a good start. While there are still some professional prior art searches, it seems like most people just have their patent attorney do the search. It is more efficient and usually more accurate. Be sure to pick a patent attorney who has some familiarity with your technology. We patent attorneys usually specialize. You probably do not want a software expert searching on a new pharmaceutical. Patentability requires that your invention be new, and also that it is something more than an obvious variation of modification of the prior art.
