bleaching is necessary no matter what hair colour you have if you want the best results. though it may be bad for your hair you can take care of it by trimming your hair after your hairdresser bleaches it for you (assuming you are going to a salon to get this done). for a hair colour like turquoise you need your hair to be very close to white (something like a pale yellow is fine) because colours like blue and turquoise can very quickly turn a disgusting green after washing it a couple of times if its not the right colour underneath. if your hair has a permanent dye in it already, you are not going to be able to get it light enough without suffering from a lot of hair breakage afterwards. permanent dye cannot be completely lifted out your hair so you wont get it as light as you need. if you have virgin hair then bleach it, then trim it, put the dye in and thats it :).

You should really leave it in it's natual state, it will be healthier and stronger that way. Get one of those "ion-heat" straightners for when you want the sleek look, and you will have the option of wearing it many different ways, without the perm!

All box color kits come with a decent quality conditioner to use afterward. What a ridiculous thing to say, all or most of your hair will fall out if you use a straightener. You may want to rethink having your friend do this, if this is as much as she knows about the process. Follow the directions in the package. Do not let it process longer than the maximum time it says. Use the conditioner, then rinse, dry and style as usual. I've been dying my hair for over 10 years. I am not sure why the other girl says not to straighten for 2-3 weeks afterward. This is not the case at all. If you straighten on a daily basis already, you already know to keep your hair conditioned.
